In conversation with Inês Caramês, founder of the brand inezita.
Some brands are born from a plan. Others emerge almost without warning, at a moment when life shifts course and leads us down paths we never imagined. That is how inezita came to be.
How did inezita come about?
It emerged during a period when, due to health issues, I had to slow down and look at everything from a different perspective.
During this slower pace, I began crocheting quite spontaneously—without any intention of creating a brand or even turning it into a project. I experimented with colors, materials, and designs, and, little by little, bags began to take shape. One, then another.
There was simply the joy of creating and the surprise of discovering something new. Gradually, these pieces began to develop their own personality, identity, and unique language.
And, almost before I realized it, inezita appeared. It wasn’t planned; it just unfolded.
Do you feel that this beginning shaped the brand’s identity?
Very much so.
Inezita was born out of a change, but I never wanted it to remain tied to the circumstances of its origin.
To me, it represents, above all, what can emerge when life takes a new direction.
Sometimes, what initially seems like nothing more than a pause ends up creating space for a discovery, a passion, or a possibility that we hadn’t been able to see before.
That is what happened to me through crochet.
You often say that there are many “inezitas” out there. What do you mean by that?
I believe there are many people who have yet to discover the full extent of what they are capable of.
People with hidden talents, deferred dreams, or paths they never had the chance to explore.
Throughout our lives, we are all challenged in different ways. There are moments when we need to adapt, reinvent ourselves, change direction, or simply start believing again in what might still lie ahead. Every person has their own story, their own journey, and their own way of moving forward.
But for me, there is also a very special tribute to women—to the many women who, at different points in their lives, have had to find new paths and have pressed on with faith, hope, and a desire to keep discovering themselves. It is to them, too, that Inezita pays homage.
So, is there an emotional dimension to the brand?
Without a doubt.
I would like that dimension to always be present, but in a light, subtle way.
Inezita isn’t about what happens to us; it’s about what we can do in the wake of those events.
It’s about the ability to transform change into possibility.
It’s about what we can discover within ourselves when life challenges us.
And it’s about that deeply human strength—a strength we often only realize we possess when we truly need it.
Has crochet, then, also taken on a special meaning?
Yes.
There is something truly beautiful about a piece coming into being, stitch by stitch.
We begin with nothing more than a single thread, and, little by little, it takes shape.
Perhaps life is a bit like that, too.
We don’t always know exactly where we’ll end up. We experiment, we build, we unravel when necessary, and we start again in a different way.
Until, at some point, we look at what has been created and realize that the journey itself was part of the creation.
What would you like someone to feel when wearing an Inezita piece?
First and foremost, I want them to love it—to feel special, confident, and inspired to make it their own.
But I also like the idea that each piece might carry a small message:
That it is never too late to surprise ourselves.
To discover a new passion.
To begin something new.
To change direction.
Or simply to believe that there are still possibilities out there that we cannot yet see.
What, then, is Inezita to you?
It’s a brand, of course. But for me, it also came to be a symbol.
A symbol of creativity, transformation, discovery, and hope.
It is also a tribute to the many women who, when faced with life’s challenges, found new paths and continued to write their own stories.
Yet, the message behind inezita goes even further.
It is for everyone who, at some point, needed to believe that there was still something new to be discovered.
If inezita could leave one message, it would be this: life can take a different turn—and still make room for something beautiful, unexpected, and entirely new.
And perhaps most importantly, never forget this: each person is capable of achieving far more than they imagine, even when they don’t yet realize what they are truly capable of.
Warmly,
Inês Caramês (Founder, inezita)
